I got this Mobil Travel Guide Mid-Atlantic at the Library (thank goodness I didn’t waste my money on it)! I wanted info on Pittsburgh, especially wanting to see some of the local universities. We drove around the city for over an hour until we found someone to ask where Pitt was. There was no physical address, email address, etc for the university…only two cross streets which ran the entire length of the downtown area. Also very few details on any of the sites to see. I will never buy, borrow or recommend this guide to anyone!

The quality of this guide has declined severely. When I checked the entry for my own city, I found that none of the well-regarded restaurants are listed, and two of the four that are listed have been long closed. As for hotels, a couple of chains were listed, but not the lovely, historic hotel where President Kennedy stayed. I’m sure Mobil is not going to invest in updates for the smaller cities every year, but this neglect is ridiculous.

I have ALWAYS relied on Mobil Travel Guides to help me plan our family vacation – but no more. I was very disappointed with the Mid Atlantic guide that I purchased this year. Information for most of the areas I wanted to visit seemed incomplete and shallow at best. We visited Williamsburg, Petersburg, Appomattox, and Harpers Ferry. I found that many of the major historical things that we wanted to see were given a passing mention. Also, the shopping and lodging that was mentioned was scant at best.
